1. Happiness is watching your plants grow

No matter if you have a full-on indoor jungle, or only have one or two houseplants, seeing them grow is a wonderful thing.

2. Sorry darling, I have plants this weekend

It’s time for the weekly plant checkups. Do they need to be watered? Do they still look healthy? Prune leggy growth. Remove yellowed, browned, or otherwise withered leaves. Check for pests.

3. What happens in the greenhouse, stays in the greenhouse

You don’t have to tell anyone about that variegated plant that lost its color. Nobody needs to know about those overwatered plants.

Keep it in the greenhouse.

7. Wash your hands, water your plants

A proper watering regime is the most important part of plant care.

Don’t water your plants as often as you wash your hands.

Watering too often leads to overwatered plants. When the soil is continually too moist, the roots stay wet and can start to rot. This can be detrimental to your plant.

Most plants handle underwatering better than overwatering. If you are unsure, you can purchase a moisture meter to help you out.

8. Just so you know, I’ve got a thing for plants

Who else warns their guests before they enter that there are a lot of plants inside your home?

9. You are beautiful no matter what shape you are

We all need to be reminded of this sometimes. Plants come in all different shapes and sizes. Just like us. And they are all beautiful. Just like us.

10. I’m rooting for you

The Tradescantia is a pretty houseplant that is easy to care for and fast-growing. It needs regular pruning to keep it bushy.

Instead of throwing the cuttings out, place them in a small bottle of water. Tradescantia cuttings grow roots pretty quickly.

11. Can’t touch this

12. Keep going, keep growing

Plants need light to grow. Don’t believe the no-light promises. Some plants can grow in lower light situations, but growth will usually slow down or even completely stop.

Plants will also start leaning and growing towards the light. New growth will look leggy from stretching out.

Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and touch the soil. Sticking your finger into the soil is the best way to check if your plant needs water or not.

Sometimes you just need a good drink. Your plants do too. Don’t let them wither away and dry up to a crisp.

Also never fertilize your plant if it is having issues. Fertilizer is not a plant medicine. It will only stress out an already stressed-out plant. Analyze, adjust, and when your plant recovers, continue your normal care routine.

15. Growth is growth no matter how small

Plant cuttings don’t grow into fully mature plants overnight.

Whatever goals you set for yourself, think about your plants. Small growth will turn into big growth if you just take good care of your plants. And yourself.

Keep your plants clean. Dust can accumulate on plant leaves in our homes. The leaf pores get clogged and the plant has a hard time taking in light.

Occasionally wipe down the leaves with a damp cloth, or bring your plant to the bathroom and treat it to a gentle room-temperature shower.

Just a few easy-to-propagate plants growing roots: Golden pothos, String of Pearls, Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma, Hedera, Burro’s Tail, Kalanchoe, and a Pilea peperomioides.

Many common houseplants grow roots when propagated in water.

Go ahead and give it a try. Most likely you can grow new plants from the ones you already have.

20. Pot it like it’s hot

The best time to repot your plant is in spring. It is the beginning of the growing season and your plant will be in the best condition to handle being repotted.  

Wait at least four to six months after repotting, before using any fertilizer. The potting mix usually already has fertilizer in it.

Indoor hanging plants are harder to reach and easy to forget about when watering your plants. Make it as simple as possible and choose one of these easy to care for hanging plants.
